Abstract

This study explores the impact of green growth on the ecological footprint, along with other factors such as environmental taxes, renewable energy, and financial development in Vietnam between 2003 and 2022. Using wavelet analysis and the spectral Granger causality test, the findings demonstrate that green growth significantly increases the ecological footprint in the short and medium term, but in the long term it contributes to reducing the ecological footprint, which implies that green growth is a potential strategy to reduce environmental degradation in Vietnam. In addition, environmental taxes play an important role in promoting green growth and reducing environmental degradation in both the short and long term, while financial development and renewable energy also significantly impact the relationship between the ecological footprint and green growth in the short and medium term. Based on the results of the empirical study, policy recommendations have also been proposed.
