Abstract

Higher education is recognized as a top priority and plays a significantly important role in the development of Vietnam. Using balanced panel data for 63 provinces of Vietnam from 2016 to 2020, the paper aims to examine the impact of higher education on entrepreneurship. The results show that higher education contributes positively to entrepreneurship. In addition, direct foreign investment and ICT factors have a positive impact on entrepreneurship, while provincial per capita income hinders entrepreneurship. There is no empirical evidence to confirm the positive impact of the provincial competitiveness index on entrepreneurship. The study also confirms the non-existence of the Bill Gates effect in Vietnam.
