Abstract

Electric cars are a new environment-friendly means of transport that have been introduced in Vietnam recently. However, consumer acceptance of this type of vehicle is limited. By extending the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), the study investigated and evaluated the influence of seven factors on consumers’ switching intention from conventional cars to electric cars in Vietnam. The regression analysis results with 214 samples show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, perceived costs, conventional vehicle usage habits, and environmental concerns are the factors that have a significant impact on switching intention. Based on these findings, the study has proposed solutions for businesses and the government to promote the intention of consumers to switch to electric cars in Vietnam.
