Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of CEO experience on firm performance. We employ a sample of 535 listed firms in the Vietnamese stock exchange market over the period from 2010 to 2021. CEO experience is measured by CEO age, the number of year that CEO has worked as a manager, or the number of year that CEO has worked as a CEO in the company. The result shows that CEO experience helps improve firm performance (measured by ROA and Tobin's Q). In addition, robustness checks provide evidence that female CEO experience is related to better firm performance, compared to male CEO.
