Abstract

This article investigates the impact of digital transformation factors and leadership characteristics on the export propensity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The regression results on a sample of 432 SMEs confirm the significant roles and impact of five key factors, including: (i) digital technology adoption, (ii) digital human resources, (iii) leadership commitment to exports, (iv) leadership risk acceptance, and (v) leadership proactiveness. Additionally, the export experience of SMEs also has a positive impact on export propensity, while labor scale does not significantly affect the export propensity of SMEs in Vietnam. Based on the research findings, the article proposes some solutions for SMEs, as well as suggests some recommendations to the government regarding support policies to encourage and promote SMEs' participation in export markets.
